BERKSHIRE has seen a week-on-week rise in Covid case rates with concerns over a new variant seeing the potential of another UK lockdown.
Figures from Public Health England released on Sunday, for the seven days to August 11, show the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.
The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (August 12-15) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.
Of the 312 local areas in England, 229 (73 per cent) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates, 81 (26 per cent) have seen a fall and two are unchanged.

Here is the breakdown of the figures by local authority area:
- Reading, 364.9, (585), 295.0, (473)
- West Berkshire, 241.1, (382), 219.0, (347)
- Bracknell Forest, 255.3, (317), 236.8, (294)
- Wokingham, 247.2, (430), 221.3, (385)
- Slough, 291.5, (436), 234.0, (350)
- Windsor and Maidenhead, 282.3, (427), 235.3, (356)
The government's interactive Covid map also shows the latest number of cases in each Middle layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs)
In Reading, for example, cases have increased by 8.3 per cent in the last seven days.
In the week leading up to Thursday, August 12, Reading recorded 541 but since then, cases have increased by 45.
Caversham Balmore Park saw cases rise by 72.7 per cent in the 7–day period ending on August 11.
This area recorded a rate of 474.9, higher than the England average of 306.4 per 100,000.
Whitley Wood also recorded high cases last week with a total of 36 in the week ending August 11, up by 22.
The case rate here is 505.5 per 100,000.
In other areas of Berkshire, Wokingham's Woodley East recorded 121.1% rise in Covid cases.
Cases shot up to 42, up by 23 leaving the area with a case rate of 535.0 per 100,000 people.
Maidenhead also has recorded a high number of cases with Maidenhead Central seeing cases rise to 40.
And the only purple area on the map in Slough recorded a 176.5% rise in cases.
Wexham Lea saw cases increase by 30 giving a total of 47 in the seven days to August 11.
On the other hand, Central Bracknell & Wildridings in Bracknell saw a 2.6 per cent rise in cases, increasing by just one case.
The rate here is 343.9.
