This week we delved into our archives to bring you pictures of the famous Carters Steam Fair from 2009.
Hundreds of people turned up for all the fun of the fair in both the rain and the glorious sunshine over the Easter weekend in April that year.
Traditional Victorian rides and other attractions were on offer at Prospect Park in West Reading.
It was also the launch of a raffle for the Teenage Cancer Trust, offering the winner the rare chance to have a Galloper roundabout horse named after them.
Joby Carter said at the time: “It is quite special. Normally, only people who have worked on the rides for more than 10 years, or family, get to have a horse named after them.”
“It is the most famous ride in the country. It was made in 1895 and has been in our family since 1977.”
Speaking about the event itself, Mr Carter added: “It went very well considering the weather. You wouldn’t know there was a recession on.
“We are always very well supported by the people from Reading.”
