REPORTS of a 'suspicious item' at a train station this morning turned out to be a box of fried chicken.
British Transport Police officers were called to Newbury Train Station this morning following reports of a 'suspicious item'.
A security alert was triggered and trains were cancelled whilst investigations were carried out.
BTP confirmed that the 'suspicious item' turned out to be fried chicken which had been 'placed on a bench'.

National Rail said trains were 'unable to call or stop at Newbury station due to a security alert'.
As a result, passengers had to walk to Newbury Racecourse and connect with the service there.
During the incident, the station remained open but there was a police presence.

A spokesman said: "Officers were called to Newbury station at 6.37am today (14 September) following a report of a suspicious item.
"Officers quickly attended and clarified this was a box of fried chicken which had been placed on a bench.”
