PLANS for a home bakery producing sourdough bread in a back yard shed have been welcomed by Newbury Town Council.
The business idea has been hailed as a ‘post -Covid positive innovation for the town’ .
Proposals on Porchester Road would see batches of two to three dozen loaves baked twice a week after it was given a thumbs up by the town council’s planning committee.
There will be an online subscription service for customers to order and pay so there will be no pick-up or drop in traffic to the site.
Bread will be baked on demand by pre-ordering online, with loaves being delivered between 2pm and 5pm on baking days.
The intent is to produce traditional slowly fermented bread such as sourdough using organic flours, milled from locally grown grains, and in accordance with the guidelines of the Real Bread Campaign, which the owner is a member of.
