‘Slough’s best secret’ could be coming to Reading, with plans to open a new bakery in the town.
Priestley Bakers, a highly-regarded family business in Slough, wants to open a branch at an industrial park near Reading Gate Retail Park in Whitley Wood.
Mark Priestley has submitted an application for a Certificate of Lawfulness from Reading Borough Council (RBC) to confirm the proposed use as ‘A3 Restaurants and Cafes’ is acceptable so that the business can open.
The Slough business is hoping to set up at Unit 2 Trade City, Sentinel End. Trade City is currently home to tile and tyre companies, with several spare units.
Mr Priestley said in the application: “The building already has planning permission and it falls into the new uses.
“I am just making sure it is OK to confirm that the use of the property as a bakery is lawful. We would like to use more than 10 per cent for retail.
“It should be granted as it already has planning. We are just making sure we are ok with a bakery and retail.”
Recent customers at the Slough branch at Windsor House, Yarmouth Rd, which has 4.6 stars on Google, have described they bakery as “Slough’s best secret” and the “number one venue for breakfast”, praising the friendly staff, value for money and quality of the food.
Here are some of the most recent reviews:

The Slough site is currently the only branch, with Reading set to become the second if Mr Priestley’s application gets approval from the council.
