READING is nothing short of fantastic places to eat boasting dozens of restaurants and cafes in every corner of town.

But one place that should be recognised more is Pierre's Baguettes in St Mary's Butts, a sandwich shop that beats any other (in my opinion).

Welcoming staff is one thing that makes the place great, but what makes me want to come back all the time is their addictive jacket potatoes.

The humble jacket potato is a British classic and enjoyed by many across the UK.

Whether it's lunchtime or dinnertime, spuds are versatile and can be enjoyed with a variety of toppings from prawns and mayonnaise, chilli con carne to tuna, beans and cheese.

Jacket potatoes are a true home comfort and are guaranteed to make you feel better on a cold, rainy day.

Reading Chronicle:

Pierre's was recommended to me by colleagues when I first joined the Chronicle and I haven't stopped going since (three years to be exact).

The establishment also boasts a five star food hygiene with standards very good after it was last inspected in April 2018.

It's always clear immediately upon entering that Pierre's Baguettes was a spot popular with locals and those working nearby-- queues often spill out onto the street.

There are a lot of different options on offer-- from freshly cut brown and white crusty baguettes to hot jacket potatoes and freshly baked cakes.

They pride themselves on the wide selection of fillings for the baguettes, from bacon, coronation chicken, tuna mayo, brie, ham, beef (I could go on).

They have a large selection of sauces to accompany the baguettes too and it really puts Subway to shame.

I'm always astounded by how fast the service is as it's always busy-- everyone working inside is friendly, warm and polite too.

Although, I'm tempted by the fresh smell of bread, my go-to is always a jacket potato with cheese and beans.

For £4.00 you get a large potato, a generous amount of beans and big handful of cheese and it tastes delicious every time.

The potato is light and fluffy, with a deliciously crispy and salty crust. The beans taste like Heinz and are rich and saucy.

You get plenty of beans and the cheese always melts perfectly into the sauce.

It's tasty, wholesome and worth every penny.

Next time, I might branch out and try a baguette but for now I'll be sticking to the spuds.

Pierre's Baguettes is on St Mary's Butts in Reading. It's open Monday to Saturday 6am to 3pm and closed on Sundays.
