Both MPs for Reading have reacted to the shocking death of their fellow MP Sir David Amess.


David Amess the Conservative MP for Southend West in Essex, was stabbed to death in his constituency earlier today (Friday, October 15).


Alok Sharma, a fellow Conservative MP representing Reading West, has expressed his heartbreak.


Mr Sharma wrote on Twitter: “Heartbreaking news about my friend Sir David Amess My thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences with David’s family He was one of the kindest people in Parliament and always made time for others This is so, so desperately sad.”

Condolences were also written by Matt Rodda, the Labour MP for Reading East.

Mr Rodda wrote on Twitter: “My sincere sympathies to the friends, family and staff or Sir David Amess MP. Such sad and shocking news.”

It has been reported that Sir David Amess, an MP since 1997, was stabbed multiple times and died of his injuries in the town of Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.
Sir Amess died aged 69.
