Three Berkshire Olympians and Paralympians are being honoured by Her Majesty the Queen in this years New Year Honours List.

The Honours List is to celebrate individuals who have gone above and beyond in a particular field, rewarding those who truly deserve it.

These are generally awarded on New Year and on the Queen’s official birthday in June.

Jeanette Chippington, MBE, is being awarded an OBE for her services to canoeing.

Based in Maidenhead, the 51-year-old has represented Great Britain at seven Paralympic Games, five in swimming from 1988-2004 and another two in 2016 and 2020 for paracanoeing.

Chippington was 12 when a virus resulted in a damaged spinal cord, paralysing both of her legs.

She has since gone on to win three gold medals, four silver medals and seven bronze medals at the Olympic Games.

Fellow Paralympian Oliver Standhope is being awarded an MBE, for his services to rowing.

The 23-year-old is the son of former Olympic silver medal winning rower, Richard Standhope, but can top that achievement with a gold at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and now and MBE.

A three-time world champion, Standhope is based in Reading.

Finally, Tom Dean is being awarded an MBE for his services to swimming.

The youngest one our list at just 21-years-old, Dean won two gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, becoming the first male British swimmer to win two gold Olympic medals at the same games in 113 years.

Based in Maidenhead, the swimmer has also won four gold medals at the 2018 and 2020 European Championships, as well as two silver medals and a bronze.
