Suicide prevention charity Calm has teamed up with Ricky Gervais to dedicate benches across the UK to encourage people to talk about grief.
The benches are inscribed with ‘hope is everything’, a crucial line from Gervais’ Netflix show After Life, which follows the story of a reporter grappling with the loss of his wife.
The third series of the show was released on January 14 to acclaim from fellow actors like Peter Egan and Kirsty Alley; even getting a shout out from England footballer Jack Grealish.
Key moments in the show are captured on a graveyard bench in the fictional town of Tambury, where Tony, played by Gervais, opens up to widow Anne about his grief.

“It’s showed that, yes, grief does hit you like a ton of bricks, but talking openly, in a real way, about how you’re feeling does actually really help,” reads the Calm website.
