Reading Chronicle readers have been having their say on Facebook following news that Laurel Park, Lower Earley, might be seeing a new 3G football pitch installed.
In response to these proposals, one angry resident said: “It is absolutely scandalous this area is even being considered for this purpose.
“It will have such a detrimental impact to the conservation area and wildlife at Laurel Park.”
This opinion was shared by many who read the original story, with many commenting their own thoughts.

One commentor, Claire Iredale, also believes it is not an appropriate place for an artificial pitch.
She said: “Not an appropriate place to out a football pitch of this nature.
“Humans really are awful that the council are prioritising a few people kicking a ball about over nature.”
Monika Hughes also agreed, saying: “Definitely not! We want to keep wildlife here!”
However, it was far from unanimous, with plenty of readers believing that more pitches were needed.
Ken Clark said: “Without a shadow of a doubt, this will be a fantastic resource.”
Dave Fostekew agreed, stating: “Definitely, and more indoor pitches.”
The statement which would most likely appease both sets of arguments came from Georgina Jury, who said: “There are a number of grassroots football clubs in the area who would benefit from pitches.
“3G pitches would ensure they are able to play each Saturday, without being a victim of the weather.
“However, I do think there are more suitable areas to build it which won't impact green space and nature reserve areas.”
