Dear Editor,
It was interesting to see the article ’21 signs you know you’re definitely from Reading’ on page 32 on your Thursday edition, published February 3.
What I would like to ask and find out through your pages is this - are younger people speaking with a Reading accent?
The Reading accent of the older generation would sound like this: "Going rained the raindubate!"

To translate, going round the roundabout. And the word house would be pronounced, ‘hace’.
Are there other Reading pronunciations?
Then there are old sayings which sadly are not used in everyday speaking as they once were.
All this is real history but without tape recordings or transcription will be completely lost eventually.
I would be grateful if you could continue this article to retrieve this fascinating Reading history.
Many thanks,
Cynthia Thomas, Reading
