THE man accused of killing a 77-year-old man in his own home has denied murdering the Reading grandfather.
Jacob Trussler, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to the murder of David Allen at a court hearing today (February 11).
Mr Allen died at his Elgar Road home on December 1, 2021, as a result of shock and haemorrhage from a stab wound to his chest, according to a post-mortem examination.

Appearing at Reading Crown Court, Trussler spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and enter his not guilty plea.
A provisional trial date has been sent for Monday, May 16 and is expected to last two weeks.
Addressing the defendant, Her Honour Judge Norton said: “The next time this case will be before the court will be on April 8th.
“You will not be brought to court on that occasion.
“The purpose of that [hearing] is to make sure that everybody knows the issues [of the case] and to make sure the case is ready for trial.
“You have to provide a defence statement.

“This sets out why you say you are not guilty of this charge.
“In that statement it must be clear what the issues are, what you accept and what you don’t accept.
“You need to co-operate with your lawyers.”
Trussler, who is 37, was remanded in custody.
A tribute to Mr Allen from his family read: "Our Dad, Grandad, Brother and Hero was tragically taken away from us too soon.
"They walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved.
"Thank you for all the lovely support from all our family and friends. Mark, Phil and family X."
