Here is how the Reading FC players rated in Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw with Peterborough United…
Karl Hein - 6.5 A decent showing from the Arsenal loanee. Made one excellent save to deny Clarke-Harris early on and another to deny Harriot late on. Kicking was erratic but hard to fully blame him for that on a night of epicly windy conditions. Badly beaten when Ward had a shot cleared off the line in the second half but certainly a performance - and a clean sheet - to build on.
Andy Yiadom - 6 Solid as ever, Yiadom didn’t offer a huge amount going forward but defended resolutely and put in a few crunching tackles. Dependable - as usual. Michael
Morrison - 6.5 An improved display from the experienced centre-back. He’s struggled in recent weeks as the defence around him collapsed but he looked much more confident at Peterborough. A number of crucial blocks and clearances although gifted the Posh one of their best chances early on with a terrible pass out from the back. Great clearance off the line to deny Ward in the second half.
Tom Holmes - 6 Not perfect, but significantly better than the recent performances from Holmes. Looked much more confident and comfortable at the back, was largely in the correct positions and helped Reading defend well enough when under Peterborough pressure. Possibly could have done better with a header at goal, but he is a centre-back after all.
Baba Rahman - 6 More solid defensively than many of his recent performances but lacked the attacking spark that has added so much to Reading’s threat going forward. One terrific cross that Swift couldn’t finish but not a lot other than that. Decent but far from spectacular.
Danny Drinkwater - 5.5 Not the worst performance of the season from Drinkwater - better than we’ve seen in recent weeks. But still not great. Gave away the ball far too frequently and too many fouls. Some good passes and still seems to have some quality on the ball but just not involved enough.
Andy Rinomhota - 6 Ran all over the pitch as usual but not particularly effective on the ball as Reading struggled to progress up the pitch. Still, in a team lacking obvious fight Rinomhota is guaranteed to give his all.
Tom Ince - 6 Looked dangerous when he could actually get the ball in any sort of space but unfortunately, that was the exception rather than the norm. Terrific free-kick in the first half that nearly broke the deadlock but not much else in terms of obvious threat.
John Swift - 5 The conditions were certainly tough for a player who wants the ball at his feet but just not involved enough. One terrible error in the second half when he was caught ball-watching a high clearance, allowing Ward to steal in and get a clear sight of goal. Fortunately, Morrison cleared off the line.
Yakou Meite - 5.5 Perhaps the start came slightly too early for Meite. Started very well but drifted out of the game. Had one decent effort in the second half but Reading just couldn’t get him on the ball enough to make a difference.
Lucas Joao - 5.5 Almost anonymous for 89 minutes until he beat two Posh players and created a golden chance for himself. Unfortunately, his weak effort was far too close to the keeper and was easily saved. Didn’t do much other than that.
Tom Dele-Bashiru - N/A Not on the pitch for long enough to get a rating.
