A Reading-based water company must pay more than £3,500 for undertaking work without a permit.

Thames Water Utilities Limited, located in Clearwater Court, Vastern Road, implemented temporary traffic control measures in a London street without a required permit on June 23, 2021.

A judge at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court on February 15 fined the company £1,800 and ordered them to pay costs of £1,575 following the street works in Haywards Garden, Putney Heath.

The company, which pleaded guilty, were ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £180.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We are sorry for failing to comply with permit requirements at our work site in Putney Heath in June 2021.

"We pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and accept the judgement of the Court.

“We carry out more than 140,000 excavations a year, the vast majority of which comply with permitting and safety standards and we take our responsibilities here very seriously.”

Thames Water have until March 15 to pay the full sum of £3,555.
