READING Ukrainian Community Centre (RUCC) has had to halt collections from good-natured residents after being overwhelmed with donations.

The group held an appeal day on Saturday (March 5) enabling locals to drop off goods for refugees fleeing from war-torn Ukraine.

Russia invaded its neighbour to the west last week causing huge upheaval across the country.

In an effort to support those affected by the war, donations have been flooding in across the country and across the town.

But the level of support has been so great that the RUCC has had to ask residents to halt their do-gooding.

In a Facebook post, they said: “Sadly we have to call a halt to collect any more items.

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and will keep everyone updated.”

Another post said the Community Centre had been ‘snowed under’ with donations.

A video posted by the RUCC shows the community centre piled up with sleeping bags, boxes of nappies, bags of clothes and more.

The collection was so successful that donations spilt out onto the street and into the back of the Community Centre.

Thames Valley Police officers attended the address to help the RUCC with organising its donations.
