Plans have been revived to put a drive-thru Greggs in the centre of Reading.

Cube Real Estate withdrew their application to build the site in Scours Lane in February but are planning to bring their proposal back to Reading Borough Council “in the coming weeks”.

A spokesperson for the developer said they are engaging with local stakeholders and politicians, including previously with Barry Elford, owner of Barry’s Burger Van which has operated near the site for 28 years, who objected to the plans on the basis they would threaten his livelihood.

Cube hope to submit a renewed application that demonstrates consultation with and support from Tilehurst residents, but the parameters of the application itself will remain largely the same.

The plans include a 176 square metre store, 22 parking spaces and indoor and outdoor seating.

“The revised application will focus on the vast ecological enhancement of Scours Lane continuing along the entirety of the Wigmore lane through to portman road boundary of the stadium way estate,” the spokesperson added.

In their first application Cube Real Estate said the unit would create 25 jobs.
