A Reading man poured boiling water over his wife as she begged police for help after an “appalling” attack from her partner.
Deliduth Khorugdharry, of Basingstoke Road, stabbed himself in the stomach before jumping out of a second-floor window following the assault on his spouse.
The 50-year-old was today locked up for grievous bodily harm after a court heard how the terrifying incident unfolded in front of two young children.

It occurred on February 20, 2020, at around 1 am when Khorugdharry said to his partner he was going to kill himself.
His wife called the police to report his behaviour when the 50-year-old poured boiling water over her head.
He then chased her around their house with the water and a knife and wounded her on her buttock with the knife, a court heard.
Khorugdharry proceeded to stab himself in the abdomen before jumping out of a second-floor window.
The fall resulted in him fracturing his skull, meaning the 50-year-old was stuck in a coma for three weeks after the incident.
His wife was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital near Aylesbury where she was treated by a plastic surgery team for burns.
Reading Crown Court heard how the wound Khorugdharry inflicted on his wife was not intentional and was probably caused by accident, according to the prosecution and defence advocates.

The Reading man’s defence barrister said he was suffering from mental health difficulties at the time of the incident.
She said: “He wants forgiveness for what happened on that day and he is very sorry.
“That contrition shows the prospect of rehabilitation.”
However, His Honour Recorder Smith disagreed.
He said: “You said you wanted to kill yourself and you would take her [his wife] with you.”
Describing the phone call Khorugdharry’s wife made to police, Recorder Smith added: “It is harrowing to hear the sheer terror and pain she was experiencing at the time.

“It is clear you followed her around while you were pouring the water over her head.
“This was an appalling incident committed against a victim in her own home while there were two children present.
“You must have intended to cause some harm.
“I reject the submissions that your responsibility for committing these offences was reduced because of your mental health conditions.”
Khorugdharry was sentenced to 30 months in prison for section 20 GBH.
He was banned from contacting his wife for five years and told to pay her £500 in compensation following a sentencing at Reading Crown Court on Monday, March 21.
