Reading has changed so much in the last 10 years.
In just the last month, plans were being drawn up for a drive-through Greggs, Popeyes submitted proposals for a restaurant and Intoku has been preparing to open.
One former employee of Tutty’s in 1955 went as far as to say he barely recognizes the town anymore.
We took a look at some of the biggest changes in Reading town centre.
Thames Tower
A multi-million pound investment in Thames Tower saw the space transformed with a roof-top terrace, bar and in-house barista.
The 15-storey tower comprises 195,000sq ft of contemporary office space. The project, designed by dn-a architects, saw the original 10-storey 1970s building stripped back to its frame, floor plates were extended and four floors added
On completion of the tower in 2017, James Silver, Landid development director, said: "This project has been a labour of love and I’m delighted that Thames Tower is finished and some of the great occupiers that we have already signed up will soon be moving in and bringing the building to life.”
Target Junction
While Metro Bank and the Gym Group have breathed new life into Target Junction, Cafe Nero remains an elder venue.
Significant defects in the junction were recently fixed, to the benefit of the hundreds of buses that driver past each day.
Jackson's Corner
The department store in Abbey Square has always been a Reading landmark.
Oxford Road
One of the busiests thoroughfares in Reading, Oxford Road is teaming with ever-changing shops.
The next big change will be the £3.3m overhaul at Reading West Train Station, where residents can expect new ticket gates at the Tilehurst Road and Oxford Road entrances, new toilets, a retail facility, a new bus interchange and improved cycle parking in the months to come.
