KILLERS, knife-wielding brutes, paedophiles and more.

They are the worst of us and they will all be spending considerable time behind bars after being sentenced for crimes in Berks and the surrounding areas last month.

Here is a rundown of the criminals from our county and beyond who have been sentenced locally in March.

A Slough man has been locked up after burgling smashing and raiding three Co-op shops in the space of a month.

Liam Brown, of Hemming Way, smashed the windows of convenience stores in Abingdon, Farnborough and Pangbourne with drain covers in August and September 2021.

He worked with two accomplices to raid the stores of thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes before the group was eventually caught.

Brown, 24, was last month jailed for the burglaries which a judge said were a ‘big deal’ for their communities.

He was locked up for 30 months for three counts of burglary.

Jeffrey Quirk

A former gymnastics coach and Eton College teacher has been jailed after raping a 14-year-old girl in the 1970s.

Jeffrey Quirk, of Reading Road, Stratfield Turgis, Hampshire, was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault and four counts of rape after he abused his gymnastics pupil over the course of a number of years.

The 74-year-old, who previously worked at Eton College, was locked up for 12 years in March.

His attacks came after he 'took advantage' of the aspiring gymnastics performer.

Reading Crown Court heard how his attacks came at a number of locations in Berkshire and Surrey, including Windsor Theatre, Windsor Marina, his old flat in Langley and at a school.

A 27-year-old Reading man has been jailed for six years for modern slavery.

Romario Harding, of Birchwood Close, subjected his victim, who was in his forties, to forced labour between October 2020 and May 2021.

Harding attacked the man with a machete on May 5, 2021.

He was sentenced to prison on February 25, 2022, following a four-day trial last year.

Harding pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on 8 September 2021, and was found guilty by unanimous jury of one count of modern slavery on 23 December 2021 at Reading Crown Court.

A 22-year-old cocaine dealer has been jailed for two years and seven months.

Chai Huszari, of Newtown Road, Newbury, was caught exchanging cocaine for cash on the canal path behind Tesco on London Road on April 5, 2020.

Huszari pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to supply cocaine and one count of possession of criminal property on September 7, 2021.

On Monday, March 7, he was sentenced at Reading Crown Court.

Darren Jones

A Maidenhead man has been jailed after sending his ex-wife a gun-assembling video, a picture of a gravestone and messages asking to pay for sex.

Darren Jones, of King Street, was sentenced for breaching a restraining order on four occasions in 2021 but his campaign of harassment began in 2019.

The 56-year-old separated from his wife in 2012 and a restraining order was made against him in November 2019 barring contact between the pair.

Having breached the restraining order, Jones was jailed.

However, he continued to communicate with his ex-wife and sent her a letter from HMP Bullingdon which contained a drawing of a gravestone and a ‘fallen angel’ poem.

Jones made more sexual approaches via text on December 30, 2021, when he also sent his ex-wife a video on how to assemble a gun and told her he ‘had a gun on the way’.

The Maidenhead man was arrested on New Year’s Eve and upon being apprehended by police, he reportedly said: “I can’t believe she had me arrested. I only wished her a Merry Christmas.”

Jones was jailed for ten months for four counts of breaching a restraining order and an indefinite restraining order was made barring him from contacting his ex-wife.

Denzil Weir

A shoplifter from Slough has been sent to prison for 18 offences.

Denzil Weir, 37, Lansdowne Avenue, pleaded guilty to 14 counts of shoplifting, two counts of assault by beating, one count of theft and one count of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

For crimes committed between September 23, 2021, and January 13, 2022, he was jailed for 24 weeks at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (March 9).

A 'dangerous' man has been jailed after continuously staring at a woman on a train between Reading and Newbury.

Dominik Bullock, 26, of Spurcroft road, Thatcham, was found guilty of causing intentional harassment, alarm or distress contrary to Section 4(a) of the Public Order Act.

British Transport Police (BTP) launched an investigation after Bullock was accused of blocking the woman from exiting the train.

At about 1.45pm on Saturday, March 5, Bullock sat next to the victim on the train and began staring at her, very intently.

The victim asked him to stop staring several times as it was making her feel uncomfortable, but he refused.

She asked Bullock to move as he was blocking her exit, but he refused again telling her 'she would have to climb over him', while spreading his legs.

He was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 10 March.

Joseph Turner

A Reading pervert has been jailed after he paid to watch adults performing sex acts on children on the other side of the world.

Joseph Turner, of Tilehurst Road, Reading, was locked up after he paid more than £1,000 to watch live child abuse taking place under his direction in the Philippines.

The 54-year-old also admitted to downloading almost 1,000 indecent images of children between 2009 and 2019.

Turner was sentenced to three years and four months in prison and was handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

His computers will be forfeited and destroyed as a result of his conviction

Four men from Reading were jailed for a combined total of 50 years after they killed Raheem Hanif in Tilehurst on February 6, 2021.

The group ambushed Raheem and his dad, Abdul, just metres from the former’s home after tensions escalated between them.

Kamran Chowdhary fatally stabbed Raheem Hanif in the chest and Humzah Sikander broke Abdul’s arm with a baseball bat.

Abas Khan, the ringleader of the attack, drove the group to and from the scene after boxing Raheem and Abdul in with his red Range Rover.

The group were sentenced as follows:

  • Abas Khan, aged 24, of Helmsdale Road, Reading, was sentenced to life in prison to serve a minimum of 26 years in custody for murder and grievous bodily harm without intent.
  • Kamran Chowdhary, 18, of Carey Street, Reading, was sentenced to life in prison to serve a minimum of 14 years in custody for murder, possession of a knife and GBH without intent.
  • Humzah Sikander, 18, of Brunel Road, Reading, was sentenced to six years in prison for manslaughter and GBH without intent.
  • Shekuh Conteh, 17, formerly of Frilsham Road, was sentenced to four years in prison for manslaughter and GBH without intent.

A Slough man has been jailed for six years after being convicted of grievous bodily harm and being

in possession of a knife in a public place.

Following a police investigation, Daniel Radu (20) of Tobermory Close in Slough was found guilty on January 28.

He returned to Reading Crown Court o March 23 where he was sentenced.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 8 last year in the Deco Bar and Lounge on Slough High Street.

It started between the victim, his two friends and two of Radu’s associates and soon spilt out onto the road where it became physical.

After being made aware of the fight, Radu approached the victim from behind and made jabbing movements causing lacerations to the victims back.

The victim’s injuries were serious and soon required surgery for the four deep cuts.

A SLOUGH man assaulted three police officers and attacked members of staff at three train stations within the space of two days.

Ryan Clarke, formerly of Victoria Street, Slough, was jailed last month for a range of offences.

He has also been hit with a lengthy driving ban after committing multiple crimes on the road.

Appearing at Reading Crown Court on Friday, March 18, 2022, Clarke was sentenced to 20 months behind bars.

He was banned from driving for 22 months for his motor offences.

A man thought his dad was dead after finding him surrounded by blood having been stabbed in the chest by a crazed knifeman.

Harry Goodwin, 27, was last month locked up after telling a punter at The Market Inn he would ‘gut him’ and ‘carve him up’ before launching at him with a hunting knife back in August 2021.

The victim, a 51-year-old who now describes himself as a ‘shell of a person’, was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the blade punctured and collapsed his lung.

Reading Crown Court heard how the knife that was used in the attack was given back to Goodwin by members of a rowing club in Walton he had stormed into a month earlier.

Goodwin was sentenced for two counts of assault by beating, possession of a knife and wounding with intent at Reading Crown Court on Friday, March 25.

Former Marlow FC captain Daniel Hicks, of Cippenham Lane, Slough, was jailed for more than nine years for manslaughter last month.

His co-defendant, Martin Fleming, of Bideford Spur, Slough, was locked up for 30 months for violent disorder.

Victim Beau Robinson, who was 35 at the time of his death, collapsed into his dad’s arms on father’s day (June 20) 2021.

He and Hicks had arranged to fight on Wyndham Crescent in Burnham after exchanging aggressive messages over WhatsApp earlier that day.

Reading Crown Court heard how Robinson arrived with a baseball bat and Hicks arrived with a knife.

Three others, including Fleming, had been called to the fight in support of Hicks.

After 25 seconds of fighting, Mr Wormald said, Hicks lifted his knee to hit Robinson in the stomach.

Hicks and the three other men fled the scene as Robinson stumbled back to his residence with his parents.

As he came back, Robinson’s father could see his face was distorted.

Mr Lofthouse, recounting the father’s version of events, claimed Robinson said: ‘help dad, help’.

His father tried to tell him help was ‘on the way’ but he slumped into his arms.

He was unresponsive by the time an ambulance arrived. He was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at around 1.5 hours after the fight.

A 21-year-old heroin dealer who tried to hide a 15-inch hunting knife from police has been jailed for three and a half years.

Ruben Bolina, of Southcote Road, Reading, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court yesterday (March 29) after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin and possession of a knife in a public place.

Bolina had bolted from police officers after they saw what they suspected was a drug deal at the junction of Baker Street and Russell Street on July 18 last year.

He was seen throwing a sheathed knife under a parked car prior to being arrested.

Three wraps of crack cocaine and heroin were found in his pocket together with two mobile phones and cash.

Officers also identified a flat on Russell Street believed to have been ‘cuckooed’ by Bolina where they recovered drug-dealing paraphernalia and further cash.

Patryk Konieczy

A man released pepper spray into a popular nightclub after he was refused entry by bouncers two hours earlier.

Patryk Konieczny, of no fixed abode, was armed with nunchucks, knuckle dusters and a baseball bat as he tried to force his way into Deco Lounge at 2am one night earlier this year.

The 28-year-old was last month jailed after his ‘act of revenge’ caused injury to a security guard and forced clubbers to evacuate.

The judge who sent him to prison compared the incident to the poisonings of Salisbury residents via Russian-sourced Novichok in 2018 and said his ‘violent’ actions likely caused ‘panic and fear’ to patrons.

Konieczny was sentenced to three years in prison for four counts of possession of an offensive weapon and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear.

A woman who was stabbed in the street by her violent ex-partner near Coley Park, Reading in November 2021, said the attack had ‘ruined her life’.

George Hassall, 22 and formerly of Harts Lane, Burghclere, rained down punches and kicks on the young woman before pulling out a 6cm folding knife and plunging it into her forehead.

Prosecutor Matthew Knight told Oxford Crown Court on Thursday that the vicious attack could have been worse had the victim not used her hands to prevent her ex from stabbing her in the neck.

She received five stab wounds, including three to her head and two to her hands. In all, she required 26 stitches and was left with permanent scars as a reminder of what Hassall did to her. Her skull was fractured.

In a victim personal statement read to the court by Mr Knight, she said: “I feel what has happened has ruined my life. I was attacked in the street, in broad daylight. I don’t feel safe anymore. How can I?”

The woman, who had to leave the courtroom while her statement was read aloud, had not recovered full movement in one of the fingers that was stabbed. She ‘hated’ her fingers, she said, and had got tattoos to try and cover them up.

He was jailed for two years and eight months.
