AN INQUEST into the death of a young woman who died after falling onto the IDR has been opened.

Reading Coroner’s Court has confirmed the woman’s name as Lucy Walles, from Caversham.

She was 24-years-old at the time of her passing, which was officially recorded on February 23, 2022.

Ms Walles died at Oxford’s John Radcliffe hospital.

Heidi Connor, senior coroner for Berkshire, said Ms Walles was taken to hospital following a “fall from a bridge”.

The court heard that her cause of death was a traumatic brain injury.

An inquest into her death was opened at Reading Coroner’s Court at Reading Town Hall on Thursday, April 14.

It was adjourned to allow information surrounding her death to be gathered and a full inquest will take place on November 1, 2022.

Ms Connor gave her condolences to Lucy's family.

Police confirmed her passing following a ‘fear for welfare’ incident on the IDR on February 16.

Officers responded after it was reported that a woman ‘fell’ from a bridge above the A329 Inner Distribution Road shortly after 1.30 pm.

She was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with multiple 'life-threatening' injuries, the South Central Ambulance Service said.

The following day, Thames Valley Police confirmed she was in a ‘critical condition’.

But the force confirmed the sad news of her passing in a statement last month.

A TVP spokesperson said: “Following a fear for welfare on 16 February on the IDR in Reading, Thames Valley Police can confirm that a woman in her twenties sadly passed away.

“Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this difficult time”.
