Reading FC went a long way to avoiding a bottom-placed finish in PL2 Division Two with a 3-1 win over table-topping Fulham.

A brace from former Chelsea youngster Rashawn Scott and a Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan opener sealed a first win in three matches to bring them level with second-bottom side Middlesbrough, level on points with the Teesiders, and a trip to the Riverside to close out a tough 2021/22 campaign.

A win, with results in their favour, could see Noel Hunt’s side finish as high as 11th.

Last season the Royals finished eighth, three points outside the play-off positions.

The side have been in the second division of Under-23 football since their relegation from the top-flight in 2016/17, being relegated on goal difference ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

There is no relegation from the second tier of youth football and so Reading will be playing in the same division next season, although if Hunt continues the form he has brought since arriving in February, the side will be looking much further up the table than this campaign.

Reading do have the opportunity to win some silverware though, with the team in the Bucks and Berks Senior Cup final against Ascot United on Saturday, May 7.
