Former Reading midfielder Charlie Adam has hinted that he might retire at the end of the current season.

The former Scotland international has been with boyhood club Dundee since leaving the Royals in 2020, helping them win promotion from the Scottish Championship in his first season and now need a result on the final day of the Scottish Premiership campaign to try and keep former Reading boss Mark McGhee’s side up.

Now 36, Adam is perhaps most famous for his spells with Blackpool, Liverpool, and Stoke City in the early 2010s- having spent a decade in the top two divisions of English football.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Adam explained that he has been thinking about hanging up his boots recently but will need to have discussions with The Dee at the end of the month.

“I’m at an age now where it might be the end for me,” he started. “I have to sit down with the club and go from there but it’s something I’ve been thinking about for the last week or so- maybe retiring. We will see what the next week to 10 days brings and what the football club want to do.”

Adam spent the 2019/20 season with Reading, making 27 appearances and scoring two goals in a Covid-19 interrupted campaign before being released in June 2020.
