READING chronicle has rounded up some of the most important stories from the last week.
1. Reading council accused 'making money' from bus lane fines
Reading council has been accused of ‘perverting the law’ by ‘making money’ from bus lanes.
Michael Guinney, from Liverpool, was visiting a relative in Goring with his wife and was on his way to his hotel in Reading when he had the misfortune of driving into a bus lane.
But Mr Guinney has argued that the council has manipulated the law by hitting him with a bus lane fine at 9.06pm.
He alleges someone at Reading Buses told him peak times finish at 9pm.

2. E-scooters in Reading: Man fined for riding across Reading
A YOUNG man has been slapped with a hefty fine after he was caught riding an e-scooter.
Delvin Fogarty, of Basingstoke Road, was convicted of riding the device without insurance or a licence between his home address and Home Farm Close on June 13, 2021.
According to Google Maps, this is a cycling distance of 3.8 miles or a driving distance of four miles.
Although a court file did not indicate the route Fogarty took, Google Maps suggests the fastest driving route is a 12-minute journey via the A33.

3. Reading Jacksons Corner, Foundry Quarter changes submitted
Those in charge of one of the biggest flats developments in Reading town centre have applied to reduce the number of units it will have.
The apartment blocks are currently being built where Iceland and Wickes used to be, between Weldale Street and Chatham Street.
Now, the developers want to reduce the number of flats built.
In the eastern half of the town centre, at Jacksons Corner, a Thai restaurant has applied to install ventilation ahead of them opening.

4. Man stabbed repeatedly in Reading park robbery near Linden Road
A MAN was stabbed repeatedly in a robbery in Reading.
The victim, in his 20’s, was sat in the park behind Linden Road when he was approached by an unknown man between 2.30 and 3.30pm yesterday (May 7).
The man then stabbed the victim before taking his backpack containing bank cards, cash and house keys.
The attacker then fled the scene towards South Whitley.
The victim suffered stab wounds to his back, elbow and stomach and required hospital treatment but has since been discharged.

5. Reading schools: Parents fined for failing to send children to class
IT goes without saying just how important it is that children go to their school.
This is a fact recognised in law as parents or guardians who do not send their children to school can be prosecuted under the Education Act of 1996.
Over the past month, three parents or guardians from Reading have been the subject of court hearings because they have broken this very law.
We have compiled a list of the schools affected by parents failing to send their children to class, choosing to anonymise the parent or the pupil in order to avoid the identification of the child.
