Reading FC Academy graduate Ethan Bristow has issued a message of thanks to the club after his release was confirmed.

The club's retain list was published this morning (20/5) and the full-back is among 11 players not offered contracts, including fellow first team players Alen Halilovic and Orjan Nyland.

Coming up through the ranks in RG2, the 20-year-old from Maidenhead signed his first professional contract in 2019 and made his first team debut the following year in a 3-1 win over Colchester United in the Carabao Cup behind-closed-doors.

Featuring three times in Cup competitions as the Royals finished seventh in the Championship, he would have to wait until last season to make his full league debut.

Starting the first three games of the season, Bristow totalled six league appearances this season, as well as playing the full 90 in a 2-1 defeat to non-league Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup and just over 25 minutes in a 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Swansea City.

In total, the defender walks away from the club having made 11 appearances for the first team but will be looking for a new club over the summer.

Releasing a post on social media, Bristow said: "I would like to thank everyone at Reading FC, the Academy and all of the fans for helping and supporting my journey at Reading FC. I wish all the players and coaches all the best for next season. Up the Ding!"
