Scaffolding has been erected around an abandoned pub once lauded as one of the town centre’s ‘last remaining boozers’.
Pictures show construction taking place at the Horn, on the corner of Castle Street and St Mary’s Butts, where the Chronicle previously reported the ceiling had collapsed.
The pub closed on June 12, 2021, after Star Pubs and Bars decided not to renew their lease with the property’s owner, Broadway Inns.

Sandra Bleek, who subleased the pub from Star Pubs, said at the time: “It would have been wonderful to be able to stay on, it’s just another town centre pub gone,” said Sandra.

“It was a proper pub pub, it was a boozer and there’s not many of those left, otherwise you’re going into bars or clubs.”
The Horn has been filled with dust, not punters, since then, and its characterful furniture and fairy lights have long disappeared.
The scaffolding suggests the building may be revived, but this is yet to be confirmed.
The Reading Chronicle were unable to contact Broadway Inns for comment.
