Reading is braced for a heatwave as temperatures are tipped to hit 29 degrees this week, according to forecasters.

Sunny days throughout the week will keep the town between 23 and 29 degrees until Sunday.

With some parts of the South East even hitting 34 degrees, experts have warned against sunbathers ‘overdoing it.’

“Very high UV levels are expected in the south this week, meaning people should really avoid being in the sun during the midday hours,” said Craig Snell, a Met Office forecaster.

“Wearing sunglasses, a shirt, a hat and sunscreen are essential to protect the eyes and skin, and drinking lots of water is important – long exposure to the sun can be dangerous.

“People should avoid overdoing it. We all love the sunny weather, but being sensible can help you avoid a nasty sunburn.”

Today will see largely sunny spells through the day, remaining dry and feeling widely warm and maximum temperatures of 24 degrees, according to the Met Office.

Reading will stay dry overnight, with mostly clear skies across the region and light winds.

Wednesdays will be dry with light winds and prolonged sunshine, becoming very warm as the mercury hits 26 degrees.

Thursday will be dry and sunny again followed by a hot Friday, with maximum temperatures expected to be 27 degrees.

Saturday will still be 24 degrees but expect cloud cover and potentially thunderstorms.
