A man pushed his former partner up against a wall by her throat in Reading.
Passing drivers tried to intervene but the offender intimidated them and they retreated, according to Thames Valley Police.
He forced the victim, in her thirties, up Langley Hill at around 9pm on June 5 before the assault, which left her uninjured.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man from Reading on suspicion of assault, who has been released on police bail until July 2.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Jen Jenkins, of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Team, based at Reading police station, said: “I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this incident to please get in touch with us.
“Also, if you have any CCTV footage in the area or any dash-cam footage if you were in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.
