A Woodley mum has heaped praise on a group of teenagers who made her son’s cinema experience ‘amazing’ after dressing up in suits for a popular new movie.

Youngsters up and down the country are turning up to theatres in smart attire to watch the new Minions movie, named ‘Rise of Gru.’

The trend - which sees teens call themselves The Gentleminions - involves the groups filming themselves going to watch the latest instalment in the Despicable Me franchise dressed in suits and sometimes bringing and eating bananas.

Emma Wade posted on Facebook last week to praise one of these groups after they appeared in suits at the Showcase cinema in Winnersh to watch the Steve Carell flick alongside her son, Ryan, aged 13.

She said: “I just wanted to say my son and a few of his friends went to Showcase cinema last night to watch the new Minion movie.

“As we turned up there was a group of around 20 teenagers dressed in suits and one in a minion outfit.

“My son said that this group really made the whole experience amazing!

“They really brought such a fun and happy atmosphere.

“After the movie, this group had lined up and were clapping everyone coming out of the movie.

“It really made my son and his friends night and they even stopped for selfies.”

The positive reception comes after some UK cinemas banned teenagers from watching the film.

Some young moviegoers have been criticised for being too rowdy while taking part in the trend.

In a handful of the viral videos posted on TikTok, crowds can be seen cheering and clapping loudly and being disruptive during screenings.

One independent cinema in Wadebridge, Cornwall, has banned any unaccompanied children who are wearing suits from watching the film.

This negative feedback crossed Emma’s mind when she posted her son’s story online.

She added: “I was in two minds about putting something on Facebook, 90 per cent of posts I see about teenagers are all negative so wanted to share when they did something good!

“They really made it such a joyous experience. That was my son's first trip to the cinema on his own and was amazing.”

She told the Chronicle: "They are a great group of lads. I did wonder what this was all about when my son asked to wear a suit!

“I was thrilled to read the positive comments on Facebook about teenagers, which is something you don't normally see! They had a great time!”
