One of Reading’s MPs has reacted to the news that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resigned.
The Prime Minister announced his resignation this afternoon (Thursday, July 7), which has been welcomed by Matt Rodda, the Labour MP for Reading East.
Mr Rodda said: “I am pleased that Boris Johnson has finally agreed to resign.
“However, I am still very concerned by the way he and his Government allowed this to happen and the way in which Ministers have propped him up for months.
“The infighting is distracting the Government from the serious issues facing the country, including the cost of living crisis, the war in Ukraine and the climate emergency.”

Prime Minister Johnson will remain in his role until the Autumn.
A new leader of the Conservative party will be selected in the coming months.
After the new leader is chosen, the winner will become the Prime Minister.
A statement has been requested from Alok Sharma, the Conservative MP for Reading West.
Mr Sharma has recently been in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, meeting with that country’s Finance Minister Nurredin Nebati and First Lady Emine Erdogan to discuss efforts to tackle climate change in his role as COP26 President.
He posted photos of the visit taken on Tuesday, July 5.
