A 35-year-old father took his own life just three days after he was due to attend a drug rehabilitation appointment, a court has heard.
Tamer Mehmet was found hanging in his room on Waylen Street, Reading, by his ex-wife on November 18, 2021, a month after they separated.
At an inquest into his death, Reading Coroner’s Court heard how the father had struggled with depression and had made suicide attempts in the past.
Previously a sales manager in the City, Mehmet got clean from drugs at a rehabilitation clinic in Thailand before returning to work in finance.

He relapsed and started using drugs again before making a suicide attempt in the summer of 2017 following ‘problematic’ substance abuse and a diagnosis of depression.
Mehmet was discharged from Prospect Park Hospital in August 2017.
In October 2021, the 35-year-old was arrested after an incident of criminal damage at his family home, which his wife had left at the start of the month.
He was taken into custody and Mehmet’s ex-wife told officers he had tried to take his own life a month before his arrest, something she had physically prevented.
In an interview with a custody officer, Mehmet denied this but accepted having a problem with alcohol and substance misuse and depression.

Following an interview with a mental health social worker, Mehmet was released after he promised to seek help from local services and his family.
Mehmet made an appointment with the local drug and substance abuse service for November 15, 2021, but failed to appear for the meeting.
Three days later he was found hanging in a new home he had moved into on Waylen Street.
He was found by his ex-wife - who he married in 2016 having met in 2009 - after his employers contacted her to say he had not appeared for work.
A toxicologist found Mehmet had taken cocaine in the period before his death.

Summing up the evidence, coroner Alison McCormick concluded Mehmet died by suicide.
She said: “Tamer hung himself when he was alone in his room where he was unlikely to be stopped.
“It is tragic he did not reach out to mental health or substance abuse services or the people who were there to support him.”
The inquest took place at Reading town hall on Monday, July 11.
