Jolly Anglers pub missed out on the BT Sport Pub Cup after a penalty shoot-out defeat.
The Kennet side pub, famed for its backyard swimming pool, put a team together in just a fortnight and put on a good show in Cardiff.
Beating Totton’s SO 40 Café and Bar 5-0, Newquay Royal British Legion 3-0, and The Dolphin Inn 3-1; they faced Heart of Oak Inn during the next round.
In a tense encounter, the Reading pub lost 3-2 on penalties, ending the dream.
Pub owner and team captain, Xhemail Zeqiri said he was “very pleased with the results. All my team played well and could not have worked any harder. Unfortunately, we were worn out during our final match against a very strong team. I cannot wait to return next year and win the trophy.”
There are also plans to put together an 11-a-side team to compete locally. If you fancy yourself a football star, please contact info@thejollyanglerspub.co.uk
