Reading came from behind to beat Cardiff City and secure a first win of the 2022/23 Championship season.

Here  are the player ratings.

Reading Chronicle:

Joe Lumley 7: A commanding performance from the loanee, he claimed everything. The occasional drop of the ball but nothing concerning. Assured and comfortable.

Andy Yiadom 7: A real captain's performance. Won his individual duels and provided a threat in attack. Involved in a scrap at the end but defended his teammates to the hilt.

Tom McIntyre 7: Almost untouchable. Stuck his head in front of everything and saved the side on more than one occasion. Backed up a solid performance at Blackpool with an even better result.

Tom Holmes 7: Almost identical to McIntyre, the pair threw their bodies on the line for the cause. Unbeatable in the air and had an accurate long pass in his locker.

Reading Chronicle:

Nesta Guinness-Walker 6: Good performance from the full-back. Was shaky to start but grew into the game. A constant threat in attack and defended well to see out the game. A real confidence booster for the 22-year-old.

Jeff Hendrick 6: Full of hustle and bustle with flashes of Premier League quality. Worked well in a pair with Tyrese Fornah, looked more attacking than his partner which balanced well.

Tyrese Fornah 6: Another young star, he took his time to grow into the game. Kept the ball ticking over in the first half but became more proactive in the second period and stamped his style on the midfield.

Ovie Ejaria 6: A slow first half, he was ineffective out wide. However, as the game went on he turned into the Ejaria of old and was magnifcent. Twisting and turning, the Bluebirds couldn;t deal with the former Liverpool academy graduate.

Tom Ince 8: Worked his socks off, gained an assist and scored a thunderbolt. Man of the match performance.

Reading Chronicle:

Shane Long 7: Perfect homecoming to notch the equaliser, he had little chance to add to his tally but never stopped running. Exactly what many expected Long to bring, experience and a touch of class.

Substitutes

Kelvin Abrefa 6: Bundles of energy, sometimes overly exuberant. Defended well and looks promising.
