1. Hundreds raised for 'heartbroken' family in memory of Sheldon Lewcock

Reading Chronicle:

A fundraiser has raised more than £1,300 in the memory of Sheldon Lewcock, who died following a collision with a van in Reading.

The 19-year-old was in Pierces Hill on August 4 when the incident occurred, passing away five days later in John Radcliffe Hospital.

His family’s lives have been “shattered” by his death and his mother, Angela, must now cover the costs of his funeral, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser.

In a statement on the page, Sheldon’s cousin, Maxene Harpa, wrote: “As a family, we are devastated by this loss.

2. Famed rock band to play Reading record shop which gave musician first job

Reading Chronicle:

Rock band The Amazons will play a free intimate gig at Oxfam Music in Reading tonight (August 18).

The acoustic set begins at 6pm and comes after the band released ‘How will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me?’ earlier this month.

Posting on their official Twitter page, the band said: “This Oxfam Music store gave me one of my first jobs."

3. Two new acts announced for Reading festival after performers snub event

Reading Chronicle:

Reading Festival have announced Charli XCX and AJ Tracey will be performing.

The news comes after Jack Harlow and rock band Maneskin pulled out of the event to play the MTV music awards in the US.

Reading Festival bosses said in a statement: “We are saddened to hear that Jack Harlow and Maneskin have decided to perform at an award show the same weekend they were confirmed to play Reading and Leeds."

4. New shop opened with help of aspiring Caversham footballers

Reading Chronicle:

Aspiring Reading footballers celebrated the opening of a Caversham store sponsoring their team.

House of Cards allowed customers in to their new, larger Church Street store for the first time yesterday (August 17), closing the doors of their first shop after 29 years.

Players for Caversham AFC Under 10’s Swans handed out cupcakes at the launch in kit paid for by the card seller.

5. Attempted murder charge dropped and three men released after teen's death

Reading Chronicle:

An attempted murder charge brought against a 17-year-old boy from Reading over the death of Sheldon Lewcock has been dropped.

A 20-year-old from Reading arrested on suspicion of murder and an 18-year-old from Reading arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have both been released without charge.

Police launched a murder investigation when Mr Lewcock, 19, died on August 9 at John Radcliffe Hospital after a collision with a van on Pierces Hill, Tilehurst, on August 4.
