A brand new political party has been launched in the UK to take the Conservatives to task over climate change.
The Climate Party is a new national centre right political party with the sole goal of getting Britain to net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
It will put forward a minimum of 110 candidates in the next General Election, specifically targetting Conservative marginal seats held by MPs who ‘obstruct climate action’.
The launch took place at The Marquis of Granby pub in Westminster today (Monday, September 5).
It has already been registered by the Electoral Commission, receiving status as a legitimate political party in March.

Ed Gemmell, Climate Party leader, said: “Politicians have utterly failed to grip the opportunities of sustainable energy supply and energy efficiency for decades, callously exposing British people to inevitable shocks in the polluting fossil fuel system.
“These past failures to invest in all forms of renewable energy and storage, and in mass insulation of buildings, have left us unprepared and unprotected from the extreme heat of summer and cold of winter — and from the rising costs of combating them.
“In addition, the Conservatives continue to allow the destruction of the natural world on their watch, spoiling our countryside and eroding our natural defences against floods and wildfires.
“We will do what it takes to repair the damage done.”
Andy Hill, Climate Party treasurer, added: “The Climate Party encourages everyone to find out more about Mission 2030 and sign up for news and updates at www.theclimate.party.
“We welcome enquiries from volunteers, as well as donations to help us make Mission 2030 a reality.
“Please get in contact if you are interested in standing as a candidate for The Climate Party, particularly in marginal Conservative seats.”
The Climate Party has challenged Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister Liz Truss to make the UK carbon zero by 2030.
Its launch came on the same day that Liz Truss, the MP for South West Norfolk, won the Conservative leadership race.
The party will particularly target Conservative MPs who are part of the ‘Net Zero Scrutiny Group’, which questions certain climate goals and is led by Steve Baker, the Conservative MP for Wycombe.

The Climate Party has already received support from two politicians in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
Councillor Wisdom Da Costa represents the Clewer & Dedworth West ward on the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead council.
He is currently a member of the West Windsor Residents Association, part of the Independent political grouping at the Royal Borough.
Cllr Da Costa previously hosted the ‘Politically Correct’ politics discussion on River Radio, but was removed in December 2021 for an alleged ‘impartial’ interview.
He now hosts the Berkshire News and Politics Show which features the Local Democracy Reporting Service, and is an accountant by trade.
Cllr Stuart Wilson represents The Wooburns, Bourne End & Hedsor ward on Buckinghamshire Council.
He is an Independent councillor and leads the IMPACT Alliance political grouping at the council chamber.
The Climate Party has also received support from individual councillors from South Oxfordshire, Lincoln and the Isle of Wight.
