An African restaurant in Reading has exciting plans to conduct music and dance performances and sell alcohol.

Avila is a gourmet African restaurant located at 535 Oxford Road in West Reading.

It offers a range of African and ‘fusion’ meals including peri-peri, stews, grilled meats and rice dishes.

Now, its owners are seeking to hold music and dance events inside and sell alcohol.

The musical and dance performances would be held from 6pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with recorded music being played and alcohol sold on site from 4pm to 10pm Monday to Thrusday, and 2pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The proposed operating changes have been submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.

Anyone who wants to comment on the application can do so by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk .

The deadline for representations is today (Tuesday, September 6).

The restaurant is held by Avilah Foods Limited, which also has a catering service for parties and weddings, and a groceries service, where customers can buy ingredients, seafood and frozen food.

The premises Avila occupies was previously held by Peri-Peri Original, which can be seen in Google Map images in July 2019.

A decade ago, the building was used as the West Reading Social Club, but it became Peri-Peri Original circa 2014.
