Reading are one of a host of clubs linked with former England midfielder Fabian Delph, reports suggest.
The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving Everton, ending a 13-year association with the Premier League.
Winning two titles with Manchester City, he is perhaps best known for his six-year spell with Aston Villa, captaining them to the 2015 FA Cup Final.
Capped 20 times by England, he was involved in the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad which reached the semi-final and came third in the UEFA Nations League the following season.
According to Football League World, the Royals join the likes of Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and West Brom in trying to attract the experienced midfielder, who can also play left-back.
Paul Ince has one slot left in his 25-man squad, with Andy Carroll and Amadou Mbengue joining the club last week.
The report claims that a Championship move is looking mostlikely for the Leeds United Academy graduate, although Scottish giants Rangers could attempt to take him north of the border.
