A fundraiser has been launched to buy a companion for a hearbroken parrot after his life partner was ‘short dead’ in Reading.
Cairo and Missy were inseparable from birth until an unknown offender killed Missy with a pellet gun while she was flying through Prospect Park.
Without her, Cairo has become depressed and struggles to try and find her in their old haunts like Little Heath, according to his owner.

“The minute I got to the park he started screaming and calling her. He thinks she’s there because he doesn’t understand that she’s gone, which is heartbreaking,” said owner Adam, 34.
“He’s not really himself. He doesn’t really fly now, whereas he used to travel 20 plus miles a day.

“He has his moments when he’s cheerful, but then when he comes back home he’s whining, he wants to look for her – he’s searching in each room.”
Natasha Colcombe, a friend of Adam, has raised £310 so far for a new friend for Cairo.
She wrote that some of the money will support this cause and some will go towards a reward for information about Missy’s death.
