American wholesaler Costco is set to open a petrol station in Reading.
The garage promises ‘low prices’ based on its business model, according to its website, at a time when fuel is compounding the cost of living crisis.
From October 13, the town’s residents can access the pumps in South Oak Way if they have a Costco membership.
Individual memberships cost £33.60 per year and trade memberships cost £26.40.

The company declined to comment on the opening of the station, including the specific prices available, to avoid creating queues.
Costco Southampton, the nearest garage to Reading, sells unleaded petrol for 147.7p and premium diesel for 169.7p.

By contrast the Shell in Basingstoke Road, Reading, the new Costco's nearest competitor, sells unleaded for 163.9p and premium diesel for 196.9p.
Costco’s fuel stations are self-service and can only be accessed with card payments.
The station is designed for one-way traffic and includes extra-long hoses that reach either side of the vehicle.
Its closest competitor is Shell in Basingstoke Road.
