Reading are among a group of clubs watching Shrewsbury Town midfielder Tom Bayliss, according to reports.
The 23-year-old made his name with Coventry City before Preston forked out over £1m for the central player in 2019.
Playing just 21 times for the Lilywhites in three seasons, including a spell on loan with Lancashire neighbours Wigan Athletic, Ryan Lowe terminated his contract over the summer to allow a free move to Shropshire.

Impressing at New Meadow, with three goals and three assists so far, he is attracting attention from those higher up the pyramid.
According to Football League World, Blackburn, Blackpool, Middlesbrough, and Reading have all kept tabs on the Salop star with an eye for a move.
Under contract until summer 2024, it would take a fee to pick up the Leicester native.
Director of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, revealed in a recent podcast that there should be money available to spend on players next summer, with the club navigating a transfer embargo for three years.
