1. Reading community foodbank sees 'demand higher than ever'

WITH ‘demand higher than ever’ a community organisation in Reading is calling for more donations from businesses so it’s foodbank is fully supplied.

Whitley Community Development Association (CDA) runs a foodbank from its base at 252-260 Northumberland Avenue in Whitley.

Anyone can take groceries from the foodbank from 10am to 1pm Monday to Friday.

2. Reading mum's terror as son 'almost dies' amid 'unliveable' flat conditions citing 'mould, damp and rats'

A four year-old asthmatic boy almost died twice while black mould and damp spread through his family’s Reading flat, his mother claims.

Caélan Parfitt-Tegg has been admitted to hospital 25 times, including intensive care twice, with a severe viral-induced wheeze in his short life, according to single-mum Anissa Parfitt, 28.

A doctor raised concerns damp was making Caelen's condition worse and Anissa alleges housing association Metropolitan Thames Valley (MTVH) has failed to fix a leak at the block of flats in Granville Road for almost five years.

3. What flats on Reading corner passed by drivers will look like

Reading Chronicle:

Construction workers are busy building an apartment block that will stand at a prominent corner of Reading that many drivers pass every day.

Work is well underway at the corner of Caversham Road and Great Knolly’s Street not far from the town centre, where 40 apartments are being built.

The site, 45 Caversham Road, used to be the home of the Avis car rental, which closed in 2020 and no longer operates in Reading.

4. Connection from Reading to West End stations marks completion of Elizabeth Line next month

Reading Chronicle:

The Elizabeth line is set to offer commuters from Reading a more direct journey to central London starting early next month (6/11).

Monday (24/10) marked the opening of the lines West End location at Bond Street which means the completion of the final station on the line.

With the completion of this station comes the connection of the line from the east to the west next month.

5. Burger joint to open at iconic Jacksons Corner in Reading

Reading Chronicle:

A new burger joint is hoping to open at the iconic Jacksons Corner building in  Reading town centre.

The Fat Hippo burger chain has applied to make shopfront alterations and install a kitchen extraction system at Unit 2 of Jacksons Corner.

The company’s plan involves removing the distinctive Jacksons Corner gold lettering and green paint, and replacing it with Fat Hippo’s black branding.
