A new climbing centre that’s coming to Reading could serve alcoholic drinks to customers in its chill out area.

This summer, it was confirmed that The Climbing Hangar would be coming to Reading.

The Climbing Hangar company currently has seven locations in Great Britain, and has a stated ‘mission’ of helping customers to “lead happier, healthier and more connected lives through climbing.”

The company’s eighth site will be in Reading, as it won approval to takeover Unit 8 of the Stadium Way Industrial Estate in Tilehurst in September.

Now, the company, called Grip UK Ltd, has applied to sell alcohol and play music during The Climbing Hangar’s operating hours.

Grip UK Ltd has applied to sell alcohol from 10am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Approved plans show a cafe, kitchen and seating area on the ground floor of the unit.

The application has been made to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.

Anyone who wishes to make a representation about the application can do so be emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

Meanwhile, work is currently under way on the unit.

A member of the construction crew said they hope to finish work on the conversion before Christmas.
