Dancers, lanterns and a giant orange bird made their way through Reading as the town celebrated Diwali on Saturday.
A musical performance kicked off the celebrations in Market Place at 4pm before a lantern parade along Broad Street.
It featured puppets from Global Grooves, two large installations by Samesky and lantern-holding children performing to Dhol drummers.

A giant blue elephant towered over the procession, who held painted pyramid-shaped lanterns.
There was a performance by Kala’s professional dancers with children from Geoffrey Field Primary School.

Diwali is a Hindu festival which takes its named from the Sanskrit term dipavali, meaning “row of lights.”
It celebrates new beginnings the victory of light over darkness in October or November each year.
