A new care home that is being built in Caversham will feature its own pub, restaurant and cinema.

The Signature care home at 199-203 Henley Road is currently under construction following the demolition of three houses to make way for a large 86 apartment care home across three blocks.

In preparation for the home opening, its operators Signature have applied to provide alcohol on premises and do indoor film showings at any time of the year.

According to the Signature website, the care home will have a pub, restaurant and cinema.

Additionally, a Signature spokesperson said that the alcoholic drinks would be complimentary 'as standard' for care home clients and visitors.

The website states: “There will be a number of communal facilities at the Caversham complex, including a warm and friendly cafe and a quiet restaurant for the foodies, as well as a quiet pub to sup away an afternoon.

“For those who love to get out and about, we will have a cinema showing the latest movies and some of the best golden oldies, lounge areas, and an activity room for socialising and learning new things.

“It doesn’t stop there. We also have a hair salon, spa bathroom, and a therapy room so you can spend many hours indulging in self-care.”

It is understood the alcohol will only be provided during the pub and restaurant opening hours.

Signature has submitted its application to host films and conduct alcohol sales to Reading Borough Council.

Anyone who wishes to comment on it can do so by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

The deadline for representations is Tuesday, December 27.
