Swansea City boss Russell Martin admitted he wanted to grab Joe Lumley 'by the throat' after Reading's 2-1 win last night.

Andy Carroll and Tom Ince scored either side of half time and Yakou Meite missed a penalty.

Liam Cullen pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining, but it was not enough for the visitors to recover from defeat.

Tempers flared post-match as keeper Lumley celebrated with fans in the West Stand, immediately in front of the 2,000 travelling Jacks.

Swans fans lobbed bottles onto the pitch, with the on-loan Middlesbrough stopper pouring the liquid over himself while widly celebrating the win which moved the Royals up to eighth.

Boss Martin, heavily linked with a return to former club Norwich City after Dean Smith's sacking, marched over and confronted Lumley, with skipper Andy Yiadom stepping in to defend his teammate.

Speaking after the match, Martin said: “I wanted to grab the guy by the throat and fight him, but that’s not a wise thing to do.”

Later on in the interview, he went on to accuse his players of being 'too nice' as they slipped to an eighth game without a win.

"Maybe they're too nice because we're too nice to them. I don't know. We'll have a chat about that as a group of staff.

"Maybe they reflect how they get treated. We treat them how we feel we would want to be treated as a player.

"We treat them as human beings first, maybe that doesn't breed a real ugliness or aggressive approach in the box. We have to try and manufacture a way to find that if it's not natural to them."
