Reading boss Paul Ince praised fan favourite Tom McIntyre's 'versatility' but admitted he is still unsure on his best position.

The 23-year-old is approaching 100 matches for his boyhood club, predominantly at centre-back, but the Wokingham-raised youngster played the full 90 minutes of the 2-0 win over Watford from midfield.

Wearing the captain's armband for the final 45 minutes, Ince was full of love for the Academy graduate, but wants to get the best out of him.

Reading Chronicle:

"It’s tough because as any player you want to just say that this is my position and that’s it," he said to BBC Berkshire. "With versatility it is hard to nail down one position. In Tom McIntyre’s case it is just where we are at the moment. We know we’re light on midfield players. We know we have Naby [Sarr] coming back, and Scott Dann and Tom Holmes. The fact we can put him in there and trust him in there is great.

"He never moans, as long as he’s out there playing, and he’s a great kid. It’s great to see him with the armband on in the second half- he merits that. He’s a great example to young kids with training and how he conducts himself. He’s so good at each position, as a manager you ask which is his best one? I’d rather him have three or four good ones than one best one."

Picking up an assist, the second goal was made in Berkshire after McIntyre's long pass found fellow Academy graduate, albeit over a decade prior, Shane Long who tucked home his second of the season.
