A HOST of excited celebrities will play a charity match at Sandhurst FC next weekend in memory of a local boy.
Ethan Treharne was unexpectantly diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer at 15 and died two years later, leaving the community shocked.
Now 15 celebrities, including Eastenders' Danny Dyer and Jake Wood, singer James Arthur, and Max Mills (Max & Harvey), will join a football match organised by Ethan's mum Nikki.
The match, organised alongside Sellebrity Soccer, will raise awareness of brain tumour research.
Danny Dyer, who confirmed his appearance to fans on his social media said: “Hello you beautiful beautiful people.
"I’m playing in Sandhurst 29th January for Ethan, an amazing kid who tragically lost his life last year so we’re playing in memory of him and we’re trying to raise some money for brain tumour research. Very very important cause and so come down.”
The family have chosen the match to take place on what would be Ethan’s 19th birthday at the football grounds where he spent most of his childhood.
Thousands of people are expected to attend in memory and celebration of the Sandhurst teenager.
Nikki Treharne said: “It was coming up to Ethan’s anniversary of death and I spoke to Kevin who runs Sellebrity Soccer. I really didn’t want to celebrate the day he died, so we decided that his birthday would be the perfect time to organise it on.
“For me, this event is for celebrating Ethan because we can’t do it with him anymore, and also raising awareness of glioblastoma which is the biggest killer for under 40 year-olds and children.
“We were doing it initially to raise treatment money but that’s obviously changed for us sadly. Now we’re raising money to help others.
“Before the match, the under 12 girls Arsenal team, which we call the ‘future lionesses’ are also going to take to the pitch for a warm-up session.”
The family have said that support from the Sandhurst community and people from surrounding areas including Crowthorne and Bracknell has been phenomenal.
Nikki added: Ever since his diagnosis at 15, he was so dedicated to getting his mobility and his fitness back because he was so involved with sport within the community.
“He played football from the age of four and he was signed for Aldershot as a goalkeeper, and trained as a referee until he got poorly.
“Lots of people have told me stories about how he helped them with their mental health and their struggles, telling them what he did to help him get through it.
“That’s part of my drive to keep helping others. Even though what he was facing was horrendous he still thought of others. That’s what I’m trying to continue for him.”
