An English film and TV actress, known for her lead role as Susan in Disney’s ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ franchise, is set to light up the stage in her first theatrical debut.
Anna Popplewell, who has also featured in the People’s Choice Award-winning CW series, has been hand-selected for Reading’s premier theatre companies’ adaption of Hedda Gabler.
Reaching outside her comfort zone to play the most iconic female lead in history, Popplewell will steep herself in the character, exploring the unique themes of 'queer rage' and the monotony of suburban life.
This play marks the third production of the Berkshire theatre’s tenth anniversary season which is a celebration of voices and talent from across the UK.
Popplewell will be joined by Mark Desebrock (Hamlet - Almeida West End) as George, Ryan Gerald (Guilt – Lionsgate, ABC Studios & Netflix) as Brack, Natalie Perera (Glass Roots – Tristan Bates Theatre) as Thea and Jessica Temple (Patriots - Almeida) as Isla.
The production has been co-produced by Reading Rep and A Girl Called Stephen theatre company to promote and produce work written by/for/with women from the LGBTQ+ community.
