A group of students have experienced working in local government during a week with Reading council.
Nine students from King's Academy Prospect and John Madejski Academy joined Reading council to experience the world of working in local government, including information about the Council, its values and its services.
The students spent time with several different departments and had the opportunity to get involved with projects, learn CV and interview skills and benefit from coaching for future career paths.
Gary, age 15, from JMA, said: “It’s been wonderful and inspirational shadowing Council staff and seeing what they get up to in their day-to-day life.
"I have learned all kinds of things ranging from health and safety to how the council communicates with the public. This has opened my eyes to a lot of career options.”
The work experience week is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to working with local schools to provide young people with experience and knowledge on which to build their future careers and to help enhance their personal and social development.
