SEVERAL drivers across the county have been caught this year driving over the speed limit, driving while inebriated or driving while using their phone.

Most people who were sentenced for these incidents received a fine and a disqualification from driving.

However, one incident did result in a jail sentence.

Luke Spencer

The 44-year-old was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on Wednesday (February 15) at Reading Crown Court after leaving the scene of a three-car collision on January 7.

The accident took place on Rose Kiln Lane near Berkley Avenue between Spencer’s vehicle, a Mercedes CLC, and two other cars, a Land Rover and a Ford Focus.

Spencer, of Lyndhurst Road in Reading, was asked to stop by a Thames Valley Police constable in uniform but instead left the incident.

Judge Sarah Campbell sentenced him to 16 months imprisonment and a disqualification from driving for two years and eight months.

A further two-month prison sentence to run consecutively was given for a failure to provide a specimen for analysis to police with a further one month driving disqualification.
