A READING rugby player is awaiting a judgement after suing an opposing player for up to £10million for ‘flattening’ her and leaving her paralysed from the waist down.

Dani Czernuszka has accused Natasha King, from Bracknell, of ‘belly-flopping’ onto her during a ruck in a league match between her team Reading Sirens and Bracknell Ladies in October 2017.

The 34-year-old, whose spine was broken leaving her paralysed, is now suing Ms King for up to £10 million compensation in a legal first for the ladies' game at the High Court in London.

From February 6 to February 10, the case was heard before Mr Justice Martin Spencer. Both participants are now awaiting a judgement which will be released as a later date.

The trial heard that Ms King, who was not penalised by the match referee for the clash, denied that the tackle was a bad one and suggested that injuries are an accepted part of contact sports.

But Mrs Czernuszka, who now plays para ice hockey for Team GB, notes that there was a size disparity between the pair leaving her vulnerable.

She was not discharged from hospital until six months after the injury, and now relies on the use of a wheelchair.

It is unknown when a judgement will be reached.
